Oluwatimilehin Doko Wins 15th African Scrabble Championship in Rwanda

15th African Scrabble Championship, recently concluded in Rwanda. Doko now joins 12 other Nigerians who have been crowned champions in the 14 instances when Nigerian players have claimed the title.

The championship, which brought together 87 Scrabble players from eight African countries, including 21 from Nigeria, took place at the Olympic Hotel in Kigali from Thursday, October 24 to Sunday, October 27.

Doko secured his victory with one game to spare, amassing 25 points out of 32 and achieving a cumulative spread of +2244. Nigeria’s George Ezinore took second place with 22 points and a spread of +1250, while Noble Onoshevwe (21 points, +1541) and Jimoh Abdulmumin (21 points, +1252) finished in third and fourth positions, respectively. Stanley Njoroge from Kenya claimed fifth place (21 points, +324), while Nigerians David Ojih, defending champion Enoch Nwali, and Godwin Victor finished in sixth, seventh, and tenth places, respectively. Kenya’s Wachira Francis took eighth place, and Uganda’s Richard Geria finished in ninth.

The 15th African Scrabble Championship once again highlighted Nigeria's dominance in the game, as their players secured several top spots in the competition.
